Photo on Canvas Salvage

Here's something kind of neat that I enjoyed doing.   After a visit with my cousin in Atlanta I saw that she had ordered a photo of her daughter and grand-daughter to be printed on canvas.   The photo was of the two of them dressed in yellow gowns like in the Disney movie "Beauty and the Beast".   Her daughter was holding the baby in the pose but the picture came back with the daughters head folded onto the side of the canvas.   Needless to say the company made it right so it was a beautiful canvas portrait.   When I saw the messed up canvas I got a wild idea in my "Jane's Perspective" way to try to see if I couldn't do something creative with it SO...…
I gessoed over everything in the photo except the grandbaby.   The canvas took the gesso just fine but you can still see a little of the original photo under the gesso.   I could have gessoed again but since this was just a kind of "fun" trial to salvage the canvas I just let one layer of gesso suffice.   You can see the drawing that I started in this picture also.   Then . . . .
I began to paint a scene incorporating the photo of the baby with the Disney characters.   You can see the beast's hand holding the baby steady on his shoulder.   Here's the completed painting.   I think it turned out kinda neat and I learned that you can paint over a photo on canvas.
